  • 1 unit of volume+ 20 unites of volume= 21 unites of volume total. Look at it like a 1:1 ratio equal parts 1+1=2
  • Normally a dilution ratio 1:20 refers to one part solvent with 20 parts total volume. This is completely the wrong way round to the way ratios usually work. Unless you're doing chemistry, the difference between 1 part in 20 parts or 1 part to 20 parts isn't going to make much difference. (For example, windshield washer fluid) If it does make a difference in your case, I'd try to check with someone exactly what they meant.
