How do you keep a potty trained dog from peeing inside their cage?

We have had our bischon-shitzu mix for about 8 years. We have always kept him in a cage when we left the house. He never had a problem with it until recently. He has been hesitating to go inside and has been going to the bathroom in there mostly everyday. I don’t know what to do anymore, please help!!
